A stroll at Barry Island beach

After taking a day to cope with jet lag, we were out and about yesterday. My hometown is Barry, Wales, which is a tourist destination, mainly due to its beaches. It's also famous for being the filming location of a hugely successful TV series, Gavin and Stacey. So, off to the beach we go!

Whitmore Bay, Barry Island (2007)

The photo above is of the main beach in Barry, taken on a previous visit. Yes, those dots are people on the beach, on a day that was not particularly warm, by Canadian standards.

The right side of the promenade in this photo (past the white shelter structure) has been developed over the past year. It now includes rental beach huts, which can be seen better using the previous link.

There is also a colourful climbing wall. My gracious husband agreed to pose for a photo. The design of the wall is quite intricate, but can't be appreciated in this photo. For more details, and excellent photos, check out the designer's webpage.

This coming weekend is a bank holiday (long weekend). The most recent one saw traffic volumes that created a four-hour backup to get off the island (along a man-made causeway). We'll be sure to stay away from there this weekend, especially if it's nice weather!
