Reaping the benefits of being social

A few days ago we flew from Brisbane (on the east coast) to Perth (on the west coast) for our current house sit in Mandurah, about an hour south of Perth.

It was a 5-hour flight. Greg had me on one side of him and a man on the other. As usual, Greg struck up a conversation with his neighbour, Tony. I said very little; I put on my lovely Bose noise-reducing headset and proceeded to watch movies. Although I heard very little of their conversation, I could tell that they chatted for much of the flight. Apparently they had many interests and experiences in common.

Tony is 6' 4" & was in economy seats with us!

Tony was flying to Perth to visit with his sister and her husband for a few days. Today they came to Mandurah to visit with us. His sister and her husband were interested in learning more about house sitting, to see if it would be a good fit for them when they retire. We enjoyed a lovely lunch together and chatted for hours.

After we went our separate ways, Tony texted to say there were dolphins in one of the harbours. As we were close by, we were there within a few minutes but unfortunately didn't see the dolphins. I'll share one of Tony's photos.

It was lovely to strike up such a comfortable relationship so quickly. Thanks to the internet, we hope to stay in touch and perhaps someday meet up again.

These words were doubly true for Greg that day :)
