We're now in Hilo, on the Big Island of Hawaii. We'll be here for two weeks, sharing a home with two dogs: Topo, an 8-yr-old Yorkshire terrier, and Yogi, an 11-yr-old Basenji/Lab/Ridgeback mix.
We took the homeowners to the airport, and then returned home. The main living area of the home is on the upper level. The dogs were happy to see us, but then looked down the stairs to see if the homeowners were with us. Not the best view of the dogs, that's for sure!
At this house sit, Greg decided against his usual sheep dog toys, and instead bought a 16-sqeaker pink pig. Topo seems to have difficulty with squeakers, so I think Greg wanted to give him some practice. Either that or he just wanted to annoy me with squeakers!
Apparently Yogi is not usually interested in toys, but that wasn't the case this time. At first it was a stand-off, and later it became a tug-of-war.
Maybe he should have bought two toys after all :)
Topo loves cuddles, and certainly had Greg well-trained from the first day.
As Greg kept cuddling him, he became quite relaxed. Notice his tongue is out a little.
Now check out the tongue, as Topo was fully relaxed. I called Greg the dog whisperer after that!
Hilo is known for being rainy, and that's certainly been our experience so far. However, this was today's sunrise from our deck, followed by a clear and sunny morning. With a high of 21ºC (70ºF) today, for me, warm rain is still better than cold Canadian weather!
Note: We have the approval of the homeowners to use photos of their pets and home on this blog.
