While we are travelling this winter as house and pet sitters, we also have house sitters at our home in Niagara Falls, Canada. The couple at our home are friends of ours, and as with all house sits, it's beneficial for all concerned. We enjoy having them as our friends ... most days anyway. I'll explain that comment now.
A couple of weeks ago, December 14th to be exact, I was writing the blog post titled "Being grateful on a cool rainy day". The gist of it was that, even though the weather was below normal for Arizona, I still had so much to be grateful for. As I was writing it an email came in from Steve, our housesitter. This photo was attached.
The photo is of the thermometer on the deck at our house. Steve went on to say it was 23ºC (73ºF) in the sun and 19ºC (66ºF) in the shade, which is well above normal for Niagara at that time of year. Let's just say that at the time, it was cooler than that where we were in Arizona. I did consider asking if he was interested in a house swap, but thought better of it!
So, today, this post is with Steve in mind. The weather forecast for Phoenix today was a high of 69ºF (21ºC), and we apparently reached 70ºF (21ºC), according to local news. Yes, it made the Twitter news today, which just shows you how cool it's been that it made the headlines.
This photo is for you, Steve. Taken from our patio area, in the shade. Now, I don't vouch for the accuracy of this thermometer, given the weather forecast and news reports, but it still looks sweet to us. With us in short, sandals and t-shirts, we're happy to be in Arizona. Life is good.
I actually put my toe in the pool yesterday, but that was far enough for me. Apparently Jake, the older dog here, went in on the ledge of the pool; only his legs, up to his belly. I didn't see it, but I heard Greg's surprised reaction. When I heard "Oh, Jake!" I wondered what he'd done. I think it was Jake's polar bear dip for 2016. Way to go, Jake!

We've heard a lot of folks talking about their weather "at home"... meaning somewhere in either the States or Canada. (Most folks we've met here are either from BC or Ottawa).... and how this winter so far has been unusually warm there. Of course we all know it will probably turn winter all too soon.
