America's respect for its patriots

Today we walked with Fanci, the poodle, to the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Park, which is just a short distance from "our home".

Its American flag is a prominent landmark on the hilltop (centre of the photo). A trail leads to it from the roadway, and along the trail you can see markers with details of those lost to the Vietnam war.

A bench at the top gives you an opportunity to perhaps reflect, and a mailbox on a post holds a visitor's book, a pen, and binoculars. Greg added an appropriate entry to the book. I was impressed to see the respect shown, in that no one had taken the binoculars.

Note the wording on the plaque:

All gave some ... some gave all.
You will not be forgotten.

It's a lovely panoramic view at the top, although today it was breezy, which gives me an excuse for my bad-hair-day look!

I had to read this plaque more than once to absorb its meaning. The Vietnam war ended in 1975, but unfortunately it did not put an end to war itself.

As today is the eve of Christmas Eve, as promised I'll bring you a photo of the most popular local outdoor decorations. No surprises here ...

Santa's prickly elves ... cactuses, of course!
