Today we’re
travelling back from St. Thomas to our home in Canada. In keeping with our blog
name, “Have sheep, will travel”, we brought along three friends on this trip:
left to right – Savvy (from Savannah, Georgia), Slippery (check out the feet),
and Disco (again, check out those dazzling ears and feet).
We hadn’t
found a need for them during this trip, so today, finding them a deserving home
was a priority. In Niagara, where we live, firefighters take teddy bears with
them to a fire scene. If a child is in distress, the teddy bear is used to
comfort them. This is the first time we paralleled that idea, and so this
morning, off we went to the fire station.
The
firefighters there were happy to take our sheep in and find them good homes. One
firefighter called them “stuffed dogs”, but I quickly corrected him. When I
asked, some of the firefighters were even eager to have their photo taken for
the blog. Yeah, mission accomplished!
We saw a
fire engine called out earlier this week, and noticed the process is different
here to back home. A small engine goes out and a water tanker follows behind. There
doesn’t appear to be any fire hydrants here, and given the terrain, that’s not
surprising. These roads certainly wouldn’t accommodate the fire engines from
Niagara!
As we left
our fourth-floor hotel room, this scene in the above photo struck me as funny. In front of the higher land mass, you’ll see what looks like a large, white, high-rise apartment
building. However, today was a 5-ship day, so both docking areas were in use.
The “building” is actually a cruise ship!
I'm betting those guys will find just the right places for your little lambs. The hospital where I used to work gave a cuddly toy to the children patients.... I'd never thought about firefighters encountering little guys... great idea!
