President's Day in Sedona

We've repeatedly been told that we should visit Sedona while we're in the area. So, today we played tourist and headed off to Sedona, which is about an hour or two north of Phoenix. The highway  weaved around mountains, oftentimes on 75 mph roads. Although not my favourite type of driving, the scenery was pretty.

We passed through the Prescott National Forest. For a forest, it certainly didn't have many trees!

The landscape changed when we were just a few miles away from Sedona, with dramatic red-rock mountains around almost every bend. Although it was not ideal lighting to see the intense red colours, it was still dramatic.

From these photos it's difficult to see just how majestic they are, but I think this one gives a better idea of their size.

This is the view just outside of our hotel, with a huge rock face right in front of us. Amazing!

I encourage you to look at the photos on Google images to get a better view of the area. It really is beautiful. Native Americans regard Sedona as sacred, and it's recognized by them as a place of healing and spiritual renewal. It often makes lists of one of the top 10 places to visit in the U.S.A. I'm glad we took the advice of others and came here.
