Well, this was taken this morning, exactly 24 hours later. I didn't adjust the colour at all. What a difference sunshine makes!
Compare this to yesterday's photo |
We're currently living in Cholla Bay, Mexico, a small community of about 150 homes, to the west of Rocky Point (Puerto Peńasco). Rocky Point is primarily a tourist mecca, whereas Cholla Bay is somewhat of a sleepy fishing community.
The bedrock of the area is volcanic rock, although there's also lots of golden sand. |
Can you guess what the man on the left is doing?
Yep, filleting fish and throwing the discarded parts to the pelicans. They lined up so politely too!
Greg's on the left in the black t-shirt |
Yesterday the locals were excited by an unusual event ... rain! Apparently they see very little rain at this time of year, so a heavy downpour is a big event, almost cause for a fiesta. To reach Cholla Bay you have to drive miles on a peninsula of sand, so for us the big event was somewhat like off-roading to get home.
For a man who likes a clean car, Greg was quite proud of its look after "dune buggying" |
To the locals, however, the big event was driving through BIG puddles. The bartender at Cholla Bay's only bar was excited by the rain. My mother, who lives in Wales, said the locals should come to Wales if they want to experience regular rain!
I'll finish today with some quick updates:
* Just before we crossed the border into Mexico, we logged 5,000 miles on this journey. For a woman who doesn't enjoy car rides, this is quite the ride!
* As a New Year challenge, I asked that you share this blog with people in other countries, to see how far we could travel. During the month of January we added Australia, Italy, South Korea, and France to the list of countries. Thanks for sharing!
Did you buy any of that fish at the beach? Sounds pretty good to me!
ReplyDeleteWe didn't, but on the way home I did comment to Greg that I wondered why we didn't. Hopefully there'll be another opportunity this week.
